"If the greatness of a life is measured in deeds done for others, then Canada’s sons and daughters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan stand among the greatest of their generation."- Hamid Karzai
On September 25, 2007, Canada lost another one of its young service men, Corporal Nathan Hornburg, was caught in a mortar barrage as he tried to repair a Leopard Tank that had fallen victim to Afghanistan’s notorious terrain. He was a lion on the battlefield, His job was not an easy one, as a member of an Armoured Recovery Team he traveled the roads and valleys of Afghanistan trying to repair other Armoured Vehicles all while being under heavy fire from insurgents lurking in the bushes. The battlefield is often known as a place where the young lose their innocence. The men and women in uniform lay down there lives every day; there stories of courage, sacrifice and lost youth often go un-noticed.
Everyday young men and women in uniform with rifles at the ready, do their best to free a world gone half mad, but when the roll is called and a name goes unanswered the tears start to flow; their hearts fill with pain and sorrow, and whether it be an American, British, Canadian, Dutch or Slovak it does not matter, in a profession of arms so small each person wearing the uniform pays tribute to another person in green. These brave warriors do what most people don’t want to. Time after time; they put their lives on the line; as they die so does the country and its people as we say good bye another of our children. It’s a vicious cycle and the only thing that keeps them going is the support from people back home. They care not for politics or policy the only thing they care about is surviving one more day in a living movie.
we're not greatful enough to those that sacrafice their lives for us...but then i guess it does not really matter to them since they are the ones that chose to do what they are doinng...
